"You become the average of the five people you spend the most time with"

I just got back from a month on the road last week. Pacific to Atlantic and all the way back again. My wife, me, and four young kids in one vehicle for thousands of miles.

The drive was the easy part. The four kids were the daring venture. I now have a much deeper appreciation for being home. And quiet. And space.

Somewhere along the way, the thing that stuck with me though wasn't a landmark or a national park. It was the people. We stopped in cities, suburbs, small towns, and places so remote I went two hours without seeing a single house. And in each place, the people felt... similar. Not in a bad way. Just similar to each other. The way they dressed. The way they talked. What they believed about money, about business, about what was possible for them.

The environment was quietly shaping everyone in it.

There's a Jim Rohn line I keep coming back to: you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Spend your time around five ambitious people and something rubs off. Spend it around five people who've decided the game is rigged and they can't win, and that rubs off too. Usually faster.

Here's the part most people miss, though. This isn't a character flaw. It's wiring.

For most of human history, fitting in was survival. The tribe fed you, protected you, kept you alive. Being the odd one out got you kicked out, and getting kicked out got you killed. So we evolved to adapt to whoever we're surrounded by. To blend. To match. To adopt their habits, their fears, their sense of what's possible.

The problem is that the wiring didn't get the memo that times changed. Today, being the odd one out isn't dangerous. It's often the whole point. The person who thinks differently than the room is usually the one going somewhere the room isn't.

Which gets at something simple and a little uncomfortable: average inputs create average outcomes. If you want something different, you have to get around something different.

Which brings me to the actual reason I'm telling you this.

If you're already surrounded by ambitious, success-oriented people who want more out of life, then good. You're in the right place. Protect that. It's rarer than you think.

But if you're not, and you're not exactly in a position to move across the country to go find those people (and honestly, who is), I want to offer you the next best thing.

The next best thing is to put yourself in a room (even a virtual one) full of people chasing the same thing you are. People building businesses they actually like. People taking back control of their time and their income instead of waiting for permission. People taking action, not just talking about it.

That room used to cost thousands of dollars to get into. Mastermind fees, coaching programs, the whole thing.

Now here's where it comes together. That room is free when you start a trial of HighLevel.

HighLevel is the software we use to build these businesses. It's the platform everything I've done is built on, and at this point I'd have a hard time running without it. It's the reason I can run a seven-figure business as a one-person operation, no employees, no team to manage.

But the reason I'm bringing it up in an email about your environment is this: the trial is also the door into the community. Start the trial and you're in the room with the people I've been describing. Same goals, same direction, all building the same kind of thing.

So you get both. The tool that changes what you're able to do, and the people who change what you believe is possible. And quite honestly, the second one tends to matter more.

I'll see you inside.

P.S. The whole drive home, I kept thinking about that Rohn quote. You can't always pick the town you live in or the people in your neighborhood. But you can absolutely pick the five people whose thinking starts shaping yours. That choice is more in your control than it's ever been.

I’m still on the road, making my way back home with my wife and our 4 kids after a month-long trip across the country. And thanks to Starlink satellite internet, I am once again taking advantage of having WiFi basically everywhere we go. Which is amazing. Also slightly ridiculous. Because right now, as I’m writing this, we’re at the very top of a mountain pass. And I kid you not… It’s snowing. The temperature just dipped below freezing. And yes, again, because I need to fully process this...

I’m writing this while making my way back home after a month-long road trip across the country with my wife and our 4 kids. West to east. Then east back to west. Which sounds adventurous and romantic until you realize it also means gas station coffee, questionable hotel pillows, and eating enough road snacks to legally classify our vehicle as a rolling raccoon habitat. But honestly? It was amazing. I saw a LOT. Big cities. Tiny towns. Mountains. Prairies. Oceans. Diners. Rest stops. Truck...
