Confession: I made 100 cold calls a day (right after my first kid was born)

Right after my first kid was born, I was making close to 100 cold calls a day.

I'd like to tell you that was a strategy. It was a panic. New baby, new pressure, and the only way I knew to get clients was to ask strangers to trust me before I'd shown them anything useful. Call after call. Most didn't pick up. The ones who did had every reason to say no, because from their side of the phone I was just a voice asking for something.

It didn't work. And it wasn't fun. I did that part so you don't have to.

Here's what I eventually figured out, and it's the entire reason this model works for someone who hates selling: I had the order backwards. I was asking first and showing second. When you flip it, show them the problem first, deliver something useful first, saying yes becomes the easy part. The conversation's already over before it starts.

So here's the message I'd actually have you send. Not to strangers. To someone you already know who might know a business owner. By text, email, DM, however you'd normally talk to them:

"Hey [Name], random question. I'm testing out a simple system that helps local businesses get more Google reviews, and I'm setting it up free for a couple of business owners while I put together some case studies. Do you know anyone who might be interested in getting more reviews for their business for free?"

That's it. That's the whole thing. No pitch, no credentials, no "I help businesses like yours," no call.

Now notice what it does. It doesn't ask anyone to buy. It asks a friend a favor, and the favor is giving something away. Whoever comes back first, the landscaper, the dentist, your buddy's brother-in-law with the HVAC company, that's who you set it up for. You don't pick a type of business and you don't pick a city. The reply picks for you. One more decision gone.

You set the system up free for 2 weeks, and you tell them up front that at the end they can choose to keep it running for $297 a month. Then you show them what it did. New reviews they didn't have. Requests going out they never had to remember. And you make the offer. They say yes before you ever charge them, because by then you're not a stranger asking. You're the person who already fixed it.

The introduction, the follow-up, the offer: the whole thing happens by message. No sales call anywhere in it. I'd know. I made the calls.

So the thing to settle today: you don't need a script, a pitch, or a personality transplant. You need one text to one person you know, and the system behind it that makes the free 2 weeks effortless to deliver. The text is above. The system is already built.

Tomorrow, the 2 clicks nobody selling a free trial ever talks about. I'm going to talk about them in detail, because I'd rather you know exactly how to leave than wonder.

Talk soon,

Adam

P.S. Whoever replies to that text is probably not the business you'd have picked. That's fine. Chris's first client wasn't a strategy either. It was whoever said yes, and that turned out to be the entire strategy.
